Safe School Program
Multi-County Crime Stoppers (MCCS) is conducting fundraising at the general program level. You can direct your donation to a more specific area such as the County level or for a specific school district if they have an active program. Funds raised will be applied to the 168 schools across the 15 school districts in the three-county area at the discretion of Crime Stpppers, Inc.
Multi-county Crime Stoppers is also seeking to partner with other community organizations to raise funds targeted for specific districts and/or individual schools. In this partnership, Crime Stoppers will:
- coordinate with district and school leadership to gain program approval
- determine funding requirements for individual schools or districts
- provide master copies of program promotional materials
- provide a dedicated page on this website for accepting, processing, and tracking donations against goals
- provide program presentations for meetings and related events
The partner organization is then responsible for promotional and fundraising activities needed to reach the required fund level. All funds raised will be restricted for use in the targeted schools or district. Once the target level is reached, Multi-County Crime Stoppers will purchase the Bearacades® and coordinate with the local facilities for deployment.
If you are interested in sponsoring a facility or district, please contact the MCCS Coordinator Steven Squier.
BEARACADE®
Bearacade® fits quickly and easily on any interior door to prevent opening in either direction. The unit features a reflective External Notification Panel™ on the outer facing portion to alert and guide administrators and authorities that the device has been deployed. The unit is designed for use outside of the K-12 educational environment and is part of the safety response protocol for county courthouses, medical facilities, individual offices, churches, and other institutions. Both create a short-term “safe room” in the event of a hostile intruder.
Once in place, the Bearacade can withstand more than 4,800 lbs. Lightweight, easy to store, and quick to deploy Bearacade® is ideal for classrooms, offices, doors without locks, many double doors, and other possible shelter-in-place locations within a building.
The Problem
A Solution
Our Program
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the US Department of Homeland Security, the average time of an active shooter or hostile intruder event is 11.5 minutes. Average police response time is 12 to 18 minutes. Since so much terror and many casualties occur before police arrive, staff members of schools need to be able to proactively protect themselves and their students.
The Bearacade® Door Control System deploys quickly on any interior classroom or office door to effectively barricade the door in the event of a hostile intruder incident. The device provides valuable time to the occupants of the room and to first responders. Even with accelerating response times, faculty, staff, and students need a solution in their hands to protect themselves during those precious minutes before police arrive. Read more about The Bearacade® Door Control System on this website and at the Bearacde® website.
Montgomery County Crime Stoppers, Inc. (dba Multi County Crime Stoppers), is partnering with local residents and community organizations to raise the funding needed to deploy the Bearacade system in our public schools located in the counties of San Jacinto, Liberty, and Montgomery Counties, Texas. Installation of initial pilot programs has begun in the Cleveland ISD, Tarkington ISD and Splendora ISD with 1000 Bearacade Door Control Systems. Crime Stoppers Coordinator, Specialist Steven Squier, MCSO and Chief Rex Evans of the Cleveland ISD Police Department spearheaded this project.
